Section 504

  • Provides protection against discrimination for individuals with disabilities, including students in schools.

  • Section 504 prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability from all school programs and activities in both public and private schools receiving direct or indirect federal funding.

  • Section 504 is designed to provide equal access and fairness in general education to students with disabilities, thereby leveling the playing field for them through what is known as a Section 504 Accommodation Plan

Each school building in the District has 504 Plan coordinators that are school counselors. If you are interested in requesting an evaluation for your student, please contact the 504 Plan Coordinator at your student’s school building.

ADA/504 Coordinator Duties

The role of the ADA/504 Coordinator is to coordinate district programs and initiate policies that reflect the federal and state requirements to ensure that students, faculty, staff and community members living with disabilities have access to our programs, services and facilities. Under the American with Disabilities Act, Title II Public entities such as Williamsburg Local Schools are required to appoint an ADA/504 Coordinator and to have a non-discrimination policy.
